1722年、トーマス・バルトンは祖国アイルランドを離れてボルドーに移住。数年後、今日なおバルトン家の名を冠したワイン商社を設立したのです。1821年、彼の孫ヒュー・バルトンは、1758年に建てられた瀟洒な館で、サンジュリアンのアペラシオンに20haの葡萄畑があるシャトー・ランゴアを購入。シャトー・ランゴア・バルトンは、1855年の歴史的な格付けで第3級畑となりました。1826年、ヒュー・バルトンはシャトー・レオヴィル・バルトンも手に入れ、数世代を経て、アントニー・バルトンがこのシャトーを今日のように国際的に認められたレベルに押し上げました。現在、ヒューから6代後の、アントニーの娘リリアンが経営を継いでおり、その2人の子どもが、ボルドーの一族10代目の物語を書き始めています。
1722- Thomas Barton left his native Ireland to settle in Bordeaux, founding few years later a wine merchant company – that still bears the name Barton today. 1821- His grandson, Hugh Barton, purchased Château Langoa, an elegant residence built in 1758 with 20 ha of vines planted in the Saint Julien appellation. Langoa Barton became a « Third Classified Growth » in the historic 1855 classification. 1826- Hugh Barton purchased Léoville Barton and after several generation, Anthony Barton raised the property to the level of internation recognition it enjoys today. 6 generaltion later, the Barton story continues with Anthony’s daughter, Lilian, and her two children, now writing the chapter of the 10th generation in Bordeaux.
